קְשַׁשII (cmp. preced; a. קְשֵי) ( to be hard, cmp. יָשַׁן, to be old. Targ. 1 Sam. 12:2 קַשֵּׁית Levita (Regia קָשֵׁית; ed. Wil. קָשֵׁיּש, v. קַשִּׁיש).Keth.95b וקַש לחמש שנין and after five years the orchard grew old (ceased to bear), Ib. כיון … עביד דקִיש since they knew that an orchard is liable to get old. B. Bath. 167b מֵיקַש הוא דקַשְׁיָאוכ׳ Ms. R. (ed. מיקש הוא דקַשָּׁה לה; Rashb. מִיקְשָׁא קשיא) she has grown old, and her voice is rough.
